Job Description

Role & responsibilities

1. Quality Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and implement the overall quality strategy aligned with business and customer requirements.
  • Lead and mentor the QA/QC team, including inspectors, engineers, and supervisors.
  • Drive a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement across the plant.

2. Quality Assurance (QA) Management

  • Establish, maintain, and update QMS (ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or customer-specific systems).
  • Approve Quality Plans, Work Instructions, Control Plans, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Review and approve PPAP, APQP, FMEA, and other quality documentation for new product development.

3. Quality Control (QC) & Inspection

  • Oversee inspection processes for raw materials, in-process operations, and final products (sheet metal parts, weldments, assemblies).
  • Ensure effective calibration and maintenance of measuring instruments and gauges (Vernier, Micrometer, Height Gauge, CMM, Laser, etc.).
  • Monitor surface finish, weld quality, dimensional accuracy, fitting, and painting quality as per specifications.

4. Customer Quality Management

  • Be the primary interface for customer quality issues, audits, and approvals.
  • Handle customer complaints using structured problem-solving methodologies (8D, DMAIC, 5 Why, Fishbone, etc.).
  • Ensure timely closure of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

5. Supplier Quality Management

  • Evaluate and qualify suppliers for sheet metal raw materials, fasteners, coatings, and consumables.
  • Conduct supplier audits and drive supplier improvement programs.
  • Ensure incoming material meets quality specifications via effective Incoming Quality Control (IQC).

6. Process Improvement & Productivity

  • Drive process capability improvements (CP/CPK), reduce rejection and rework costs.
  • Lead lean initiatives such as 5S, Kaizen, Poka-Yoke, and root cause elimination.
  • Analyze quality metrics (rejection, rework, scrap, customer PPM) and implement improvement actions.

7. Compliance & Audit Management

  • Ensure compliance with internal, customer, and external audits (ISO, safety, statutory, regulatory).
  • Prepare audit reports, documentation, and follow-up actions.
  • Maintain documentation in line with industry and customer standards.

8. Team Development

  • Train quality inspectors and shop-floor teams on measurement techniques, standards, and best practices.
  • Build competency in use of measurement tools, welding quality standards, GD&T, and sheet metal processes.

Preferred candidate profile

  • Strong understanding of

    sheet metal fabrication

    , welding, bending, stamping, laser cutting, and assembly processes.
  • Deep knowledge of

    ISO 9001 / IATF 16949

    , APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, SPC, GD&T.
  • Experience with metrology tools and advanced measurement systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills (8D, 5Why, RCA, PDCA).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and customer-handling skills.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with Production, Engineering, NPD, Purchase, and Maintenance teams.
