The Head of Performing Arts plays a pivotal role in shaping the artistic vision and educational strategies of the performing arts program within an International Baccalaureate (IB) school. This leadership position is essential for fostering a vibrant learning environment that nurtures students creativity and appreciation for music and theatre. The Head of Performing Arts will be responsible for creating an innovative curriculum that aligns with IB standards while promoting collaborative and interdisciplinary learning. By managing a diverse team of educators and coordinating events, performances, and community outreach, this role ensures that students receive high-quality educational experiences that enhance their artistic skills and understanding of the performing arts. The Head of Performing Arts is also tasked with developing partnerships within the community, seeking opportunities for student engagement, and promoting the departments visibility, ultimately preparing students to be confident performers and critical thinkers. Key Responsibilities Develop and implement an inclusive, high-quality curriculum for music and theatre. Lead the performing arts department by providing mentorship and support to staff. Collaborate with educators across disciplines to integrate performing arts into the broader curriculum. Organize and oversee all performances, events, and competitions. Recruit, train, and evaluate teaching staff within the performing arts department. Foster a positive and collaborative department culture that encourages innovation. Manage departmental budget and resources efficiently. Establish strong relationships with students, parents, and community stakeholders. Conduct regular assessments of student performance and curriculum effectiveness. Stay updated on best practices and trends in performing arts education. Promote student participation in local and international arts programs. Ensure all activities align with IB principles and standards. Develop partnerships with local organizations to enhance educational opportunities. Facilitate workshops and professional development for staff. Act as a spokesperson for the performing arts program, advocating for its importance. Required Qualifications A Bachelors degree in Music, Theatre, Performing Arts, or a related field. A Masters degree in Education, Arts Administration, or a related area is preferred. Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in music or theatre, preferably in an IB school. Previous experience as a Head of Department or equivalent leadership role is mandatory. Strong knowledge of IB philosophy and curriculum frameworks. Proven experience in curriculum development and instructional design. Excellent organizational and planning skills. Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a diverse team. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Experience in performance management and student assessment. Commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse educational environment. Passion for the performing arts and a commitment to students performance and learning. Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and the community. Understanding of financial management in an educational context. Proficiency in the use of technology for enhancing teaching and learning in the arts. Experience in fundraising or resource development to support the arts program.
