About the Company: Grid8 is a venture-backed, US-based startup, building the energy backbone for the AI era. As global compute demand accelerates, power reliability has become the biggest bottleneck for data centers, industrial facilities, and utilities. Traditional grid infrastructure is struggling to keep pace, leading to delays, rising upgrade costs, and increasing outages. Grid8 solves this with a full-stack reliability platform that combines advanced energy-storage hardware and AI-driven grid software. Our solutions deliver 5-9s power availability, accelerate interconnection and siting decisions, and enable customers to operate efficiently even in highly constrained grid environments. Backed by major grants, patented technology, and deployments in the US and India, Grid8 partners with hyperscalers, industrial operators, utilities, and energy developers who require scalable, resilient, and intelligent power infrastructure. We value ownership, clarity, and speed-and we empower our team to build the technologies that will power the next generation of AI and industry. Position Summary: We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer or Chemical Engineer to join our team in India for Grid8’s Energy Storage Product Line (under EarthEn Energy subsidiary). This role will be based at our workshop, where you will oversee the fabrication, procurement, assembly, and testing of heat battery components. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with mechanical systems, safety protocols, and process optimization to ensure our systems meet rigorous pressure, temperature, and performance standards. Key Responsibilities: Collaborate on the design and selection of mechanical components, including turbomachinery (e.g., pumps), safety equipment (e.g., safety valves), and various control valves. Manage fabrication, purchasing, and assembly processes in the workshop environment. Conduct testing for pressure ratings, temperature resilience, and overall system performance. Optimize processes related to heat transfer in packed beds, flow control, pressure management, and system efficiency. Ensure compliance with Indian safety and engineering standards throughout the development lifecycle. Work closely with cross-functional teams, including contractors, to troubleshoot and iterate on system designs. Job Requirements: Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a related field from a recognized institution. Experience: Minimum 3+ years of professional experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in energy systems, thermal storage, or related industries. Proven hands-on experience with mechanical components, turbomachinery (such as pumps and compressors), safety equipment (e.g., pressure relief valves, safety valves), and various types of control valves (e.g., globe, ball, butterfly valves). Familiarity with workshop-based fabrication, assembly, and testing processes, including pressure and temperature testing protocols. Experience working in India-based projects or with local contractors is highly preferred. Technical Knowledge and Skills: Strong understanding of heat transfer principles, particularly in packed bed systems or similar thermal storage media. Expertise in process engineering, including flow control, pressure control, and system optimization for efficiency and reliability. Knowledge of relevant standards (e.g., ASME, ISO) for pressure vessels, valves, and safety equipment. Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for component design and simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, CFD) for process analysis. Ability to interpret and apply thermodynamic and fluid dynamics concepts to real-world applications. Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving abilities with a focus on innovation and cost-effectiveness. Strong communication skills for collaborating with teams, contractors, and stakeholders. Ability to work independently in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Location and Other Details: Main location: Mumbai, India. Occasional visits to locations in Bengal or Gujarat may be required. Willingness to travel to workshops or contractor sites as needed. Competitive salary, stock options, and benefits package commensurate with experience.
