We are seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Gemmologist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating and identifying gemstones, providing expert analysis on their quality and authenticity. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of gemstone grading, cutting, and market trends. Key Responsibilities: Gemstone Identification : Accurately identify and classify a wide variety of gemstones, including diamonds, coloured stones- Natural/treated/Synthetic using specialized tools and techniques. Grading and Evaluation : Assess gemstones for their quality, size, colour, and cut using established grading systems, and provide reports. Inventory Management : Maintain accurate records of gemstone inventory, including descriptions, photographs, and grading reports. Education & Training : Keep up to date with industry developments, trends, and new technologies in gemmology; share knowledge with team members and customers. Quality Control : Ensure the quality of gemstones meets industry standards and company specifications. Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience as a Gemmologist in a retail, wholesale, or laboratory environment. Technical Skills : Proficient in the use of gemmological tools and equipment, including microscopes, refractometers, spectrometers, and other diagnostic instruments. Knowledge : In-depth knowledge of gemstone properties, Origin, grading systems, and current market values. Attention to Detail : Strong analytical skills and attention to detail for precise gemstone identification. Communication Skills : Excellent verbal and written skills for internal Communications and Training. Computer Skills : Familiarity with inventory management software and Microsoft Office Suite. Required Skills: Languages : Additional language skills are a plus, particularly for international dealings. Training Ability : Ability to educate and mentor junior gemmologists or staff members. Education & Certifications : A degree or diploma in Gemmology (e.g., from GIA or another accredited institution). Additional qualifications such as certifications in coloured stone identification are preferred. Work Environment: Full-time hours, with occasional extended hours during peak business periods. Work environment may involve exposure to precious gemstones and handling delicate materials.
