Garment Technologist

Job Description

A Garment Technologist ensures garments are manufactured efficiently, within budget, and to quality standards, working closely with designers, factories, and other teams. They oversee fabric selection, construction methods, and the entire development process, from initial ideas to production. They also analyze product returns, respond to customer queries, and contribute to quality control. Key Responsibilities: Material Selection & Costing: Selecting appropriate fabrics and materials, ensuring they meet design requirements and budget constraints. Design Modification & Production: Working with designers to modify models, suggesting changes to pattern designs, and ensuring garments are produced efficiently. Sample Fitting & Quality Control: Overseeing fabric testing and first sample fittings, ensuring garment construction methods are correct, and producing quality control reports. Problem Solving & Analysis: Analyzing product returns and faults, responding to customer queries, and troubleshooting production issues. Budget Management: Ensuring garments can be produced within budget and managing cost analysis and control systems. Communication & Collaboration: Working closely with designers, pattern cutters, and factory personnel to ensure seamless communication and collaboration throughout the production process. Risk Assessment: Assessing product safety and ensuring adherence to relevant standards and regulations. Additional Skills: Knowledge of garment construction: Understanding different garment construction techniques and methods. Technical skills: Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and drawings. Communication skills: Ability to communicate effectively with various teams and stakeholders. Problem-solving skills: Ability to identify and resolve issues related to garment production. Organizational skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
