Game Mathematician

Position Overview:

As a Game Mathematician, you will play a crucial role in designing and developing the mathematical frameworks that drive the mechanics, algorithms, and probability models within our games. You will collaborate closely with game designers, developers, and artists to ensure that our games are balanced, fair, and engaging. Your expertise in mathematics, statistics, and probability theory will be key to creating compelling gameplay experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

• Game Mechanics Design: Develop and refine the mathematical models and algorithms that govern game mechanics, including probability, scoring systems, and reward structures.
• Probability and Statistics: Analyze and implement probability distributions, random number generation, and statistical models to ensure fairness and unpredictability in gameplay.
• Balancing and Tuning: Work closely with game designers to balance game elements such as difficulty, progression, and player rewards through mathematical analysis and simulations.
• Data Analysis: Conduct data-driven analysis of player behavior, game performance, and outcomes to inform game design decisions and optimize gameplay experiences.
• Algorithm Development: Design and implement efficient algorithms for various game functions, including AI behavior, procedural content generation, and optimization tasks.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including designers, developers, and QA testers, to ensure seamless integration of mathematical models into the game.
• Documentation: Create detailed documentation of mathematical models, algorithms, and game mechanics for internal use and future reference.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of probability theory, statistics, and mathematical modeling.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, and JavaScript.
• Manage Version controls like Git.
• Understanding of machine learning.
• Familiarity with game development processes and engines (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine) is a plus.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate complex mathematical concepts to non-experts.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Passion for gaming and a deep understanding of what makes games fun and engaging.
