Engineering Manager


Responsibilities:


Execution & Delivery

  • Oversee the full software development lifecycle, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.
  • Drive agile execution, managing multiple sprints/releases and ensuring alignment with business priorities.
  • Define engineering roadmaps in collaboration with product and business teams to support strategic goals.
  • Lead technical debt reduction, system scalability, and maintainability initiatives.
  • Ensure CI/CD efficiency with automated testing, security, and observability enhancements.

Technical Leadership

  • Provide hands-on technical mentorship, ensuring adoption of best practices in software development, security, and performance optimization.
  • Lead teams in designing and developing scalable, cloud-native solutions using modern architectures (Microservices, Event-Driven, API-first).
  • Collaborate with Principal Architects and engineering leadership to ensure technology strategy alignment.

People Leadership & Team Development

  • Mentor and coach engineers, fostering a culture of learning, innovation, and growth.
  • Conduct regular 1:1s, career development sessions, and succession planning.
  • Drive employee engagement and retention by building a high-performance and inclusive team culture.

Cross-Team Collaboration & Business Alignment

  • Partner with Product, Business, and Design teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Proactively manage dependencies across teams and ensure seamless cross-functional collaboration.
  • Work effectively with cross-geography teams, ensuring clear communication, alignment of goals, and smooth collaboration across different time zones.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations, balancing business needs with engineering priorities and technical constraints.
  • Lead engineering efforts to balance speed, scalability, and technical excellence.

Operational & Risk Management

  • Drive operational excellence, ensuring system reliability, incident management, and root cause analysis.
  • Implement security, performance, and availability SLAs, maintaining compliance with governance standards.
  • Identify, track, and mitigate technical and delivery risks to ensure smooth execution.


Technical Skills Required:

  • 12+ years of experience in RESTful API development, server-side technologies, and cloud-based architectures.
  • 12+ years of hands-on development experience (preferably in Java, JavaScript, or full-stack development).
  • 3+ years of direct people management experience, including performance management, hiring, and coaching.
  • Expertise in Cloud Platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), Microservices architecture, Mobile applications and distributed systems.
  • Strong experience with Relational & NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB) and middleware technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD automation, DevOps, and modern software engineering practices.


Soft Skills:

  • Strong communication & collaboration skills, engaging both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Problem-solving, creativity, and innovation mindset.
  • Deep understanding of Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban).
  • Proven ability to lead complex projects with multiple dependencies, ensuring high-quality releases.
  • Strong skills in risk identification, issue resolution, and process improvement.
  • Ability to align engineering priorities with business outcomes and influence cross-functional stakeholders.


Education & Experience:

  • Experience in highly available, large-scale enterprise systems and performance tuning.
  • Experience working in retail or cloud-native product development.
  • 12+ years with min of 3+ years into people management
