Job Description

Key Responsibilities: Electrical and Instrumentation Design & Engineering : Lead the design and development of comprehensive electrical and instrumentation systems, including power distribution, control systems, and automation solutions for industrial processes. Perform detailed electrical load calculations, cable sizing, and fault analysis using advanced design tools and software. Develop instrumentation specifications (e.g., transmitters, sensors, actuators) for process measurement and control in line with industry standards (e.g., ISA, NEC, IEC). Prepare and review instrumentation loop diagrams, control narratives, and wiring diagrams. Design and develop SLD P&IDs and interface drawings for electrical and control systems. Instrumentation and Automation Systems : Design and implement control systems using PLC, DCS, and SCADA for automation of industrial processes, ensuring reliability, scalability, and optimization. Program and configure PLCs (e.g., Siemens) and SCADA systems (e.g., WinCC,). Ensure accurate integration of field instruments with control systems, overseeing the selection and calibration of instrumentation for pressure, temperature, flow, and level monitoring. Develop control logic and communication protocols (Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP) for system-wide integration and data acquisition. Project Coordination and Management : Take the lead in coordinating electrical and instrumentation engineering tasks with multidisciplinary project teams, including civil, mechanical, and process engineers. Assist in developing project schedules, defining deliverables, and setting milestones for the Electrical & Instrumentation scope of the project. Provide leadership during design reviews, HAZOPs (Hazard and Operability studies), and risk assessments to ensure all safety and technical requirements are met. Regularly communicate with clients, project managers, and other stakeholders to provide updates, resolve issues, and incorporate feedback into the design and execution phases. Procurement and Vendor Liaison : Develop detailed technical specifications for the procurement of electrical equipment (e.g., switchgear, transformers, MCCs) and instrumentation devices (e.g., control valves, analysers, flowmeters). Evaluate and approve vendor proposals and technical bids, ensuring they meet project specifications, standards, and quality requirements. Coordinate Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) for major equipment, including functional testing of electrical panels, PLCs, and instrumentation systems at vendor facilities. On-site Supervision and Installation : Supervise the installation of electrical systems (e.g., power distribution, earthing, lighting) and instrumentation devices (e.g., flow meters, analyzers, and control valves) on-site. Conduct site inspections to ensure that all installations conform to design specifications, standards, and project requirements. Provide technical direction to contractors and subcontractors, resolving any technical issues related to electrical and instrumentation installations. Ensure safe and efficient installation practices, complying with health and safety regulations, particularly in hazardous environments (e.g., Ex-rated zones). Testing, Calibration, and Commissioning : Lead the commissioning of electrical and instrumentation systems, developing and executing test protocols and commissioning plans. Perform and oversee loop checking, signal verification, and calibration of all instrumentation devices to ensure accurate operation and data acquisition. Lead and supervise site commissioning activities, including troubleshooting, and rectifying any technical issues with control systems and field instruments. Prepare commissioning reports and documentation, ensuring that systems are handed over in full working order, meeting performance and safety standards. Maintenance and Troubleshooting : Provide ongoing technical support for electrical and instrumentation systems post-commissioning, assisting with troubleshooting and root cause analysis for equipment failures. Develop maintenance strategies for electrical equipment and control systems, including predictive, preventative, and corrective maintenance plans. Train maintenance teams and operators on the safe and effective use of instrumentation and control systems. Compliance and Safety : Ensure all designs and installations comply with local and international standards such as NEC, IEC, and ISA for electrical and instrumentation systems. Implement intrinsic safety and hazardous area classification requirements, ensuring that equipment and instrumentation meet Ex-rated zone standards. Work closely with the HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) team to implement safety procedures and ensure that all on-site activities meet regulatory and client-specific safety requirements. Documentation and Reporting : Maintain accurate project documentation, including as-built drawings, data sheets, technical reports, test records, and calibration certificates. Prepare and submit weekly and monthly progress reports to project managers, highlighting milestones, potential delays, and risk mitigation strategies. Ensure all project close-out documents, including O&M manuals, maintenance schedules, and performance reports, are completed and submitted to clients. Key Skills: Strong knowledge of electrical design and instrumentation engineering principles. Proficiency in Electrical & Instrumentation design software (e.g., AutoCAD, ETAP, EPLAN) and PLC/SCADA programming. Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (NEC, IEC, ISA). Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for both electrical and control systems. Strong leadership, project coordination, and communication skills. Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related field. Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical and instrumentation engineering, particularly in industrial, oil & gas, power, or EPC projects. Proficiency in PLC, DCS, and SCADA systems. Knowledge of hazardous area equipment and intrinsic safety. Professional Engineer (PE) certification or equivalent is advantageous.
