Job Description

Duty Medical Officer (DMO) for Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBG) is responsible for providing high-quality medical care to women during labor, delivery, and postpartum. The DMO will also assist in the management of gynecological emergencies, routine procedures, and care for the reproductive health of women in the hospital. The position requires proficiency in both obstetric and gynecological medical procedures, as well as emergency care in critical situations. Key Responsibilities : Obstetric Care : Provide immediate medical care during labor, including monitoring fetal heart rate, assisting in delivery (vaginal and caesarean), and managing post-partum recovery. Monitor the health of both mother and baby during labor and delivery, ensuring prompt intervention if complications arise. Conduct vaginal and cesarean deliveries, ensuring safe delivery for both mother and child. Administer medication as needed during labor and delivery, including analgesia, oxytocin, and antibiotics. Manage obstetric emergencies such as preeclampsia, eclampsia, postpartum hemorrhage, and uterine rupture. Perform routine postpartum care, including monitoring for complications like hemorrhage and infection. Gynecological Care : Provide treatment and management for gynecological disorders, including menstrual abnormalities, pelvic pain, and infections. Conduct and interpret routine gynecological exams, such as pap smears and colposcopies. Perform minor gynecological procedures (e.g., D&C, IUD insertion, and biopsy) as needed. Assist with family planning counseling, including contraception options and education on reproductive health. Medical Procedures : Assist in or perform C-sections, laparotomies, and other surgical procedures when required. Provide care and support to women undergoing gynecological surgeries, ensuring appropriate pre- and post-operative care. Handle obstetric and gynecological emergencies efficiently, performing immediate interventions as needed. Patient Monitoring and Documentation : Regularly monitor maternal and fetal vitals, including blood pressure, fetal heart rates, and other critical parameters. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care, including medical histories, diagnoses, treatments, and outcomes in the hospital's Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. Ensure the preparation of discharge summaries and appropriate follow-up care for patients. Collaboration : Work closely with the nursing staff, anesthetists, and obstetricians/gynecologists to provide optimal patient care. Provide guidance to junior medical staff and medical students, fostering an environment of learning and continuous improvement. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in the management of complex obstetric and gynecological cases. Emergency Response : Respond promptly to obstetric emergencies (e.g., fetal distress, hemorrhage, eclampsia) and provide timely interventions. Perform neonatal resuscitation and stabilization as required during delivery. Infection Control and Safety : Adhere to infection control protocols to prevent hospital-acquired infections. Maintain patient safety by following all medical guidelines and best practices. Qualifications : Education : MBBS Experience : Fresher or having at least years of experience in a hospital setting, with hands-on experience in obstetrics and gynecology.
