Position Overview We are looking for an experienced Drone Firmware Engineer & Test Pilot to focus on the development, tuning, and testing of our Pixhawk-based drones. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in modifying and optimizing ArduPilot firmware and extensive experience in flying large drones (above 25 kg all-up weight). This role requires hands-on expertise in firmware development and real-world drone testing, ensuring that our UAVs meet the highest performance and safety standards. Key Responsibilities Firmware Development: Customize and optimize ArduPilot firmware to enhance drone performance for specific applications. Develop, test, and implement new firmware features based on project requirements. Troubleshoot and resolve firmware-related issues to ensure smooth and reliable drone operations. Work closely with hardware engineers to ensure seamless integration of firmware with drone components. Maintain and update firmware documentation and code repositories. Test Piloting: Conduct comprehensive flight tests to evaluate the performance and stability of large drones (over 25 kg). Fine-tune flight parameters and settings based on test flight data to achieve optimal drone performance. Ensure all test flights comply with safety regulations and company policies. Analyze flight data and provide detailed reports to guide further development and improvements. Collaborate with the engineering team to implement test findings into firmware updates. Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with software developers, project managers, and other stakeholders to align firmware development with project goals. Provide technical guidance and training to junior engineers and test pilots as needed. Stay informed about the latest developments in ArduPilot and UAV technology. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 3 years of experience in drone firmware development, with a strong focus on Pixhawk and ArduPilot systems. Proven experience in flying and tuning large drones with an all-up weight exceeding 25 kg. Proficiency in modifying and optimizing ArduPilot firmware for various drone applications. Strong programming skills in languages such as C++, Python, or similar. Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. A certified drone pilot license is highly desirable. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Skills Experience with ROS (Robot Operating System) and its applications in UAVs. As a UAV Test Pilot based in Mumbai, Maharashtra, you will be responsible for conducting flight testing of Multi-rotors and VTOL drones. Your duties will include tuning the drones, soldering various boards and wires, and providing detailed feedback reports of test flights to the R&D team.
