Resident Medical Officer (RMO) – Job Description Hospital Type: NGO-run, 100-bedded (General/Surgical/Obstetric/Paediatric/ICU/NICU) Position: Shift-based Reporting to: Head, Clinical Services 1. Position Summary The Resident Medical Officer (RMO) is responsible for providing round-the-clock clinical care, coordinating patient management, supporting consultants, and ensuring the smooth functioning of inpatient, emergency, and outpatient services. The RMO plays a key role in maintaining quality, safety, and compassionate care in alignment with the hospital’s NGO mission. 2. Key Responsibilities A. Clinical Responsibilities Provide initial assessment, stabilization and management of patients in OPD, IPD, Casualty/Emergency. Perform daily rounds , monitor vitals, update patient status, and execute treatment plans advised by consultants. Handle basic emergency procedures : IV line insertion, catheterization, Ryle’s tube, wound dressing, CPR, oxygen support, nebulisation, etc. Assist in deliveries and manage common obstetric/paediatric emergencies (modify as per hospital services). Support minor surgical procedures and assist consultants in OT when required. Document all clinical findings, prescriptions, progress notes, and discharge summaries correctly and timely. Ensure safe administration of medications, infusions, and blood products. B. Coordination & Communication Coordinate with consultants, nursing staff, lab, radiology, pharmacy and support services for seamless patient care. Communicate effectively with patient relatives, provide updates, and promote patient education and counselling. Ensure timely referral and accompany patients when referral transport is required (as per policy). C. Administrative Responsibilities Maintain proper medical records in compliance with hospital and legal requirements. Support implementation of NABH standards , infection control practices, and hospital safety protocols. Participate in hospital quality initiatives, audits, morbidity/mortality reviews, and clinical meetings. Ensure availability of emergency drugs, equipment, and consumables; report shortages or breakdowns promptly. 3. Required Qualifications MBBS /BHMS/ BAMS degree from a recognized university. Valid registration with State Medical Council / NMC. Preferably 1–3 years experience in a hospital setting (fresh graduates with good clinical skills may be considered). Exposure to emergency medicine, obstetrics, paediatrics or general medicine is desirable. 4. Skills & Competencies Strong clinical judgment and ability to manage common emergencies. Compassionate communication and patient-centred approach, aligned with NGO values. Ability to work in resource-limited settings and make appropriate triaging decisions. Team player with good coordination and documentation skills. Basic computer literacy (EMR, MS Office, medical documentation). 5. Work Schedule Shift-based duty (8–12 hours) including night duties and weekend rotations. On-call responsibilities as per roster and hospital policy. 6.
