Role Overview The Design Engineer -Mechanical will be responsible for developing Basic &Detailed engineering designs for Mechanical Equipment /Systems for Municipal Solid Waste and associated Water and Wastewater treatment systems. This role demands strong technical expertise in Mechanical engineering, as well as familiarity with relevant equipment and process systems. The engineer will ensure that all designs comply with project specifications, industry standards, and regulatory guidelines.
Key Responsibility Areas (KRA) 1. Mechanical System& Equipment Design Good Understanding of Basic Engineering Package (BEP) covering Treatment Scheme Process Fow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs),Mass &Energy Balance, Electrical Load list, Utilities Requirement etc Perform Mechanical equipment /System Design ,sizing, material selection and Data Sheets Design Mechanical layouts for treatment plants (solid and liquid waste systems).Fire Fighting Systems Develop Basic and Detailed Design and Engineering for Piping ,HVAC ,Pressure Vessels, Boilers /Chillers ,Heat Exchangers with Mass/Energy Balance Prepare Mechanical GADs(General Arrangement Drawings) Prepare Piping Schedule/Valve Schedule/Piping Layouts /Isometrics with BOQs 2. Engineering Calculations & Specifications: Prepare and validate engineering calculations for pumps, blowers, scrubbers, piping, and other mechanical systems/ components. Specify /Select mechanical equipment and ensure compatibility with Overall Plant process design Plant Piping Design,size/thickness calculation, Line Schedule, Valve Schedule, (PMS/VMS) Piping layout, stress analysis , Isometrics drawings, Insulation for piping, Pipe support details, preparation of BOQ's with specifications, etc. Prepare Request For Quotation (RFQs) for Procurement, Technical review of Vendor documents (Designs and Drawings) 3. Drawing & Documentation: Prepare and monitor the Engineering Schedule (MDI), generate and review 2D/3D CAD drawings, fabrication drawings, and design documentation. Maintain accurate and up-to-date technical files, design notes, and BOMs. Perform Interdisciplinary Checks of Drawings /Documents Mechanical Lead in HAZOP Prepare Operation & Maintenance Manual for Mechanical Systems 4. Standard Compliance: Ensure designs comply with Project Specifications, national and international codes (e.g, IS, ASME, ASHRAE, API). Coordinate with QA/QC teams for design validation and internal audits. 5. Coordination & Support: Work closely with proposal, procurement, and execution teams to ensure design alignment with project goals. Collaborate with Cross Functional Teams/System Suppliers to resolve design issues and Optimize solutions Support site execution teams with technical clarifications and as-built documentation. To participate in Testing /Trial Run / Commissioning during Process Guarantee Test Runs(PGTR)
6. Client ,Consultant& Vendor Interaction: Responsible to get Design /Drawing Approvals from Client/Consultant Collaborate with vendors to ensure correct interpretation and integration of specifications./drawings integration with Overall Plant Design /Engineering 7. Equipment Familiarity You will be designing Mechanical systems / Equipment that include, but are not limited to: Pumps: Centrifugal, screw, submersible, dosing, firefighting pumps Conveyors: Screw, belt, and chain conveyors Shredders, Crushers, Wind Sifters, Screens Reactors, Scrubbing Columns, Blowers, Fans Pressure Vessels, Heat Exchangers, Cooling Towers Mechanical Equipment/Systems in Water /Wastewater Treatment Units: RO, UF, ZLD systems ,SBR,MBR,DM etc Piping Systems: For water, slurry, gas, grit ,Fire Fighting Dewatering Units, Gas Accessories (Flare, Flame Arrester, Compressors) HVAC Systems Piping all MOCs /high pressure /High Temperature
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) KRA Key Activities Performance Indicators (KPIs) - Accuracy, timely delivery, timely approvals , Cycle time - Develop GADs, ,Fabrication, , Isometric Drgs 1. Equipment System Design (Revision history) 2. Technical Documentation - Prepare drawings, MDL, BOMs, specs - Completeness, client acceptance, documentation, cycle time 3. Standards Compliance -Number /Nature of non- conformities, audit scores Design &Standards complying to Contract/IS/International Standards - Client satisfaction, vendor input quality monitoring 4. Vendor/Client Support - Interact for approvals and clarifications Time,/Cost savings and capturing Learnings 5 Value Engineering Optimization/Standardisation
Academic Qualifications B.E. / B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering M.E. / M. Tech is preferred
Skills & Competencies Required 5 - 8years of relevant experience in Mechanical design for wastewater/chemical/MSW projects or Petro Chemical, Power, Utilities Industries Experience on using piping software like Auto CAD, Revit, Navisworks, Caesar -II & HVAC software, Familiarity with industry codes and standards (IS, ASME, API, ASHRAE. etc.) Strong Design & Engineering skills Willingness to travel to project sites /Consultants office across India Reporting Structure & Collaboration Reports To: Head -Engineering Collaborates With: Other Engineering Disciplines Viz Process, Civil, E&I Supply Chain & Procurement Project Execution & Commissioning Operation & Maintenance Teams Proposal Teams Clients, Vendors, and Consultants Finance, HR, and Admin Teams
