Job Description

Job Title: DB2 Database Administrator Overview: We are looking for a skilled DB2 Database Administrator to join our architecture team. In this role, you will support development projects by helping teams manage and store data on the mainframe's central DB2 system. Your focus will be on defining data models, creating efficient SQL queries, and improving application performance related to DB2. You'll also evaluate new DB2 features and provide recommendations for their use across the organization. Note that this role is focused on architecture, not operations. Key Responsibilities: Maintain and update DB2 database structures and implement changes. Assist in creating and ensuring the quality of physical database models. Optimize and review SQL queries for performance improvements. Help developers with complex SQL queries and troubleshoot performance issues. Provide support to users with QMF-related issues. Train application developers and business staff on DB2-related topics. Research and assess new DB2 features for potential use in the organization. Key Skills & Competencies: Technical Skills: Experience in mainframe software development, ideally under IMS. Strong knowledge of Cobol and SQL. Experience with database management, particularly DB2. Familiarity with data modeling (entity-relationship) and tools like ERwin. Experience with BMC Catalog Manager and BMC Change Manager is a plus. Knowledge of APPTUNE is beneficial. Behavioral Skills: Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to adapt to changing requirements and learn new skills quickly. Proactive in identifying issues and providing solutions. Ability to guide and support teams effectively. Qualifications: Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or related field. Candidates with a non-technical degree must have at least 1 year of relevant experience. An MBA in IT, Insurance, or Finance is also acceptable for roles like Requirements Engineer or Test Engineer.
