Role & responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Database Design and Development: Design, develop, and optimize PostgreSQL databases to meet business requirements.
• Migration Expertise: Lead database migration projects from legacy systems (e.g., Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server) to PostgreSQL, ensuring data integrity and minimal downtime.
• Cloud Integration: Implement and manage PostgreSQL databases in cloud environments such as AWS (RDS), Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Performance Tuning: Optimize database performance by analyzing and resolving slow queries, indexing issues, and storage inefficiencies.
• Automation: Develop scripts and tools to automate routine database tasks, backups, and monitoring.
• Collaboration: Work closely with application developers, DevOps teams, and stakeholders to ensure seamless database integration and deployment.
• Documentation: Create and maintain detailed documentation of database designs, migration plans, and performance metrics.
• Data Security: Ensure compliance with best practices for database security, including access controls, encryption, and regular audits.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• [8+ years] of experience in PostgreSQL database development and administration.
• Proven expertise in database migration, including data mapping, transformation, and validation.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS (RDS, Aurora), Azure Database for PostgreSQL, or Google Cloud SQL.
• Strong knowledge of SQL, PL/pgSQL, and database optimization techniques.
• Familiarity with tools like pgAdmin, pg_dump, DBeaver, or other PostgreSQL management tools.
• Experience with database replication, clustering, and high availability solutions.
• Solid understanding of DevOps and CI/CD pipelines related to database deployment.
