Job Description

About the Role: Data Science Intern (Fraud Detection) We are looking for an aspiring data scientist to join our fight against payment fraud. As a Data Science Intern at Driffle, you will play a key role in analyzing transactional data to uncover fraud patterns and optimize our payment fraud detection algorithms. This is a unique opportunity to apply your data skills in a real-world setting – protecting a marketplace used by gamers globally – and to learn how data science solutions are built and deployed in a production environment. If you are excited by the prospect of digging into data to catch bad actors, safeguard user trust, and improve algorithms, this internship is for you. Responsibilities: As a Data Science Intern focused on fraud detection, you will be involved in a variety of challenging and impactful tasks:Analyze Transaction Data: Dive into large volumes of transactional and user behavior data to identify anomalies and patterns indicative of fraudulent activity. Use statistical analysis and data mining techniques to detect trends and correlations.Optimize Fraud Detection Algorithms: Work with our data science team to develop, test, and refine algorithms for payment fraud detection. This may include improving rule-based systems and training machine learning models to identify fraudulent transactions in real-time.Collaborate with Engineering Teams: Partner closely with backend engineers (Node.js team) to integrate your findings and models into our production systems. You’ll learn how MySQL and MongoDB databases are utilized in our stack and help implement data-driven rules or features in the codebase.Monitor and Evaluate Systems: Continuously monitor the performance of fraud detection measures – track false positives/negatives, model accuracy, and fraud incidents. Provide insights and regular reports on how the fraud patterns are evolving and propose adjustments to our strategy.Cross-Team Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams including product managers and customer support. For example, you might coordinate with the support team to investigate specific fraud cases or with the product team to understand new payment features that could affect fraud risk.Data Visualization & Reporting: Present your analysis and findings through clear visualizations or dashboards. Communicate complex data insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders to inform decision-making. Throughout these responsibilities, you’ll be directly contributing to keeping Driffle’s marketplace secure and trustworthy for our users – a mission-critical endeavor for the company. Requirements – What You Should Bring: We understand this is an internship role, but here are some must-have skills and qualifications we’re looking for:Educational Background: Pursuing or recently completed a degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field. Academic exposure to data analysis or machine learning is highly valued.SQL Proficiency: Strong SQL skills are required – you should be comfortable writing complex queries to extract and manipulate data (our transactional data lives in MySQL databases). Knowledge of MongoDB or NoSQL querying is a plus.Programming Skills: Experience in a programming language for data analysis, especially Python (with libraries like pandas, NumPy). You can write scripts to clean data, perform analysis, and possibly prototype algorithmic solutions.Analytical Thinking: Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities. You can approach unstructured problems (like detecting new fraud patterns) in a logical way and you’re not afraid to ask questions and dig deep into data.Basics of Machine Learning: Familiarity with basic machine learning and statistical concepts. You don’t need to be an expert, but you should understand concepts like classification, clustering, regression, and be eager to apply them if needed.Attention to Detail: Diligence in examining data for subtle patterns or irregularities. Fraud can be complex – you should be the kind of person who notices the “odd one out” in a dataset.Communication Skills: Ability to communicate your findings clearly, both in writing and verbally. You will regularly explain insights or propose solutions to team members who may not be data experts, so clarity is key.Team Collaboration: A collaborative mindset and willingness to work with others. You’ll be working with engineers, product folks, and possibly client-facing teams – being a team player and open to feedback is essential.Passion for the Domain: (Optional but appreciated) An interest in gaming or e-commerce. Since Driffle is “built for gamers,” a passion for the gaming industry or understanding of how digital marketplaces operate will help you contextualize your work. Internship Details and Expectations: Duration: 6 months (with a possibility of extension or full-time opportunity based on performance and company needs).Location: In-person at our office (we believe you’ll learn the most by being on-site, interacting face-to-face with the team). Our primary office for this role is in Gurugram (Gurgaon), Haryana, India – a vibrant hub in the Delhi-NCR region where several of our team members are based. (Note: If you’re applying from another city, you should be willing to relocate for the internship duration.) Why This Internship? This is not your run-of-the-mill internship. At Driffle, you will directly contribute to solving a critical real-world problem – payment fraud – in an industry that’s both exciting and challenging. You’ll get to apply classroom knowledge to live scenarios, learn cutting-edge tools and best practices, and see the tangible impact of your work on a product used by thousands of people. If you’re an aspiring data scientist who loves digging into data, is eager to learn, and wants to make a difference in a global gaming marketplace, we want to hear from you! Ready to level up your data science career in the gaming world? Come join us at Driffle and help build a safer, smarter digital goods marketplace. Apply now and let’s fight fraud together while delivering value to gamers everywhere!
