Role: Data Engineer

Purpose

The Data Engineer( 6 - 9 years) is responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of scalable data warehouse solutions. This role involves building robust ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes, ensuring data accuracy and availability, optimizing performance, and supporting business intelligence efforts by delivering timely and accurate data. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data modelling, database architecture, and experience with modern data engineering technologies such as Microsoft Fabric.

Responsibilities

Business Intelligence

• Support the Microsoft Fabric data platform to ensure scalability, performance, and security
• Develop and maintain data integration processes to support ingestion from multiple sources
• Work with BI Developer to provide data required for BI reporting
• Act as first line support on ETL troubleshooting
• Help optimise existing data integration processes

Skills Technical Essential

• Excellent knowledge of ETL processes
• Excellent knowledge of SQL Server development (T-SQL)
• Strong knowledge of relational & dimensional databases and data modelling
• Experience with multiple methods of connecting to data sources (e.g. SQL, ODBC, REST API)
• Good understanding of BI/software development life cycle (Azure DevOps / GIT) and CI/CD processes

Desirable

• Experience specifically with Microsoft Fabric
• Experience with relevant ERP systems (Sage X3 / D365 / AX / Navision)
• Experience with tools such as R / Python / PySpark

Personal

• Effective communicator with good organisational, prioritising and influencing skills
• Skilled at promoting process adherence and compliance
• Experience of presenting technical information to non-technical stakeholders
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Qualifications

Desirable

• DP600 or relevant data warehouse qualification

Experience

Essential

• Experience of producing a data warehouse and cube from multiple source systems, and supporting the associated reporting and dashboards.
• Ability to interpret data to provide insight and direction based on findings
• Able to prioritise multiple tasks and work to timelines
• Comfortable working with complex data structures

Desirable

• Experience working with manufacturing, supply chain, or commercial sales data in the B2B Food and Beverages industry
• Experience working in global cross-office teams
• Experience in transition from legacy systems to modern integration architectures
