Job Description

Role & responsibilities

1. Clinical Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and manage

    neurosurgical conditions,

    including trauma, tumors, vascular lesions, congenital anomalies, spine disorders, and nerve injuries.
  • Perform

    elective and emergency neurosurgical procedures

    (cranial and spine).
  • Provide specialist opinion for

    OPD, IP, emergency, ICU, and trauma cases

    .
  • Manage pre-operative evaluation, operative planning, and post-operative care.
  • Perform

    bedside procedures

    in the ICU/ward as necessary.

2. Emergency & Critical Care

  • Attend

    neurosurgical emergencies,

    including head injury, spine injury, stroke requiring intervention, and acute neurological deterioration.
  • Support the critical care team with

    neuro ICU management

    , ventilator support decisions, and monitoring of neurosurgical patients.
  • Participate in

    trauma team

    response when required.

3. Surgical Skill & Procedures

  • Perform surgeries such as:
    • Craniotomy, craniectomy, tumor excision
    • Skull base surgeries
    • Aneurysm clipping/vascular surgeries (as applicable)
    • Endoscopic neurosurgery Spine surgeries (decompression, fixation, instrumentation)
    • Micro-neurosurgery procedures
  • Ensure adherence to

    sterile techniques, surgical safety standards, and OT protocols

    .

4. Patient Monitoring & Documentation

  • Conduct

    regular rounds

    in wards and ICU.
  • Maintain clear, accurate

    case sheets, operative notes, consent forms, and discharge summaries

    .
  • Ensure timely updating of EMR/HIS documentation.

5. Coordination & Multidisciplinary Care

  • Work collaboratively with

    neurologists, anesthetists, intensivists, the rehabilitation team, radiology, and emergency physicians

    .
  • Participate in clinical discussions, tumor boards, and interdisciplinary case reviews.

6. Quality, Standards & Compliance

  • Follow hospital

    clinical protocols, NABH standards, and infection control practices

    .
  • Participate in audits, morbidity-mortality meetings, and quality improvement activities.
  • Ensure accurate and ethical clinical decision-making.

7. Teaching & Mentoring (If applicable)

  • Guide junior doctors, residents, and nursing staff.
  • Conduct training sessions on neurocritical care, emergency management, and operative techniques.

Qualifications & Experience

  • MBBS + MS (General Surgery) + MCh / DNB (Neurosurgery).
  • Valid medical registration and eligibility to practice in the region.
  • 07 years of experience

    (depending on consultant/junior consultant role).
  • Experience in handling neurosurgical emergencies and trauma preferred.
