We are seeking a dedicated Continental Commis 1 to join our dynamic kitchen team. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your culinary skills in a professional environment while working with top chefs in the industry. Job Summary: As a Continental Commis 1 , you will assist in the preparation and cooking of continental dishes under the supervision of senior chefs. You will be responsible for the cleanliness of your assigned section, assisting with food prep, maintaining a high standard of food quality, and ensuring the efficient operation of the kitchen. Key Responsibilities: Food Preparation & Cooking: Assist in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of continental dishes according to the hotel’s menu specifications. Ensure the highest standards of food quality, consistency, and presentation are maintained. Follow specific recipes, cooking techniques, and portion sizes. Prepare ingredients for cooking and store them properly to prevent spoilage. Section Management: Work within a specific section of the kitchen (e.g., cold section, hot section, pastry, etc.), supporting the section chef and ensuring tasks are completed efficiently. Maintain a clean and organized work station, ensuring all food items and equipment are safely stored. Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, including proper storage, handling, and sanitization of food. Cleaning & Organization: Maintain cleanliness in your designated section of the kitchen and follow hygiene and safety standards at all times. Ensure that kitchen equipment and utensils are cleaned, maintained, and organized. Assist in the proper disposal of waste and the cleaning of surfaces and work areas. Collaboration & Learning: Work closely with other kitchen team members, including Commis 2 and senior chefs, to ensure smooth operations and efficient service. Participate in training sessions and continuously develop your skills and knowledge of continental cuisine. Be proactive in learning new cooking techniques, ingredient preparation, and kitchen processes. Stock & Inventory: Assist in checking and maintaining stock levels for the assigned section. Report any discrepancies or shortages of ingredients to the head chef or supervisor. Menu Assistance: Help in the preparation and execution of new menu items or daily specials. Assist in menu planning and testing recipes, ensuring high standards are met in taste and presentation. Qualifications: Previous experience as a Commis Chef or in a similar role in a continental kitchen. Basic knowledge of continental cooking techniques and food preparation. A formal culinary qualification (e.g., Culinary Arts degree or diploma) is preferred. Ability to follow instructions and work efficiently under pressure. Good communication skills and a team player mentality. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards. Knowledge of food safety standards and kitchen hygiene regulations. Physical Requirements: Ability to work in a hot, fast-paced kitchen environment. Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 25 lbs. Ability to perform repetitive tasks and handle kitchen equipment safely.
