Cloud Administrator

AWS (preferred)

Key Responsibilities

Cloud Infrastructure Management

  • Deploy, configure, and maintain core cloud services (compute, storage, networking, IAM).
  • Build and manage secure landing zones, multi-account structures, and resource hierarchies.
  • Ensure scalability, resilience, and high availability of infrastructure.

Infrastructure as Code & Automation

  • Implement and manage infrastructure using IaC tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK).
  • Automate provisioning, scaling, patching, and maintenance tasks with scripts (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
  • Maintain version-controlled infrastructure code aligned with DevOps practices.

Operations & Monitoring

  • Oversee daily operations including EC2 instance management, backup, patching, and disaster recovery.
  • Monitor system health, performance, and availability using CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, or equivalent tools.
  • Troubleshoot incidents, conduct root-cause analysis, and implement preventive measures.

Security & Compliance

  • Manage IAM policies, roles, and security controls following least-privilege principles.
  • Integrate cloud security services (AWS KMS, Security Hub, GuardDuty, Firewall Manager).
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational standards (ISO, PCI DSS, HIPAA, SOC 2).
  • Participate in audits, risk assessments, and vulnerability remediation.

Networking & Connectivity

  • Configure and manage VPCs, subnets, routing, NAT, load balancers, and DNS services.
  • Manage hybrid connectivity (VPN, Direct Connect, Transit Gateway, ExpressRoute).
  • Optimize routing and firewall rules to ensure secure, efficient connectivity.

Database & Storage Administration

  • Support cloud database services (RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB) and storage systems (S3, EBS, EFS).
  • Manage backup/restore, replication, failover, and performance tuning.
  • Work with data engineers on governance, access control, and data lifecycle management.

DevOps & CI/CD Enablement

  • Collaborate with DevOps teams to integrate infrastructure into CI/CD pipelines (CodePipeline, Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
  • Support container orchestration platforms (EKS, ECS, Kubernetes).
  • Ensure deployments are automated, repeatable, and auditable.

Support & Incident Response

  • Participate in on-call rotations for 247 cloud infrastructure support.
  • Respond to alerts, escalate critical incidents, and ensure timely resolution.
  • Document incidents, create playbooks, and improve response times.

Continuous Improvement

  • Evaluate and recommend new cloud services, features, and tools.
  • Identify opportunities for cost optimization and operational efficiency.
  • Mentor junior team members and promote cloud best practices across teams.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Cloud Expertise:

    Hands-on experience with AWS (preferred), Azure, or GCP. Strong understanding of core services (compute, storage, networking, IAM, security).
  • Infrastructure as Code:

    Proficiency in Terraform, CloudFormation, or equivalent.
  • Scripting & Automation:

    Strong skills in Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
  • Operating Systems:

    Proficiency in Linux (RHEL, Ubuntu, CentOS); Windows Server knowledge is a plus.
  • Networking:

    Deep knowledge of TCP/IP, VPNs, routing, load balancing, firewalls, DNS, hybrid networking.
  • Security:

    IAM best practices, encryption, compliance frameworks, vulnerability remediation.
  • Monitoring & Logging:

    Experience with CloudWatch, ELK stack, Prometheus, Grafana, or similar.
  • Databases & Storage:

    Knowledge of cloud databases (RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB) and storage solutions (S3, EFS, EBS).
  • Troubleshooting:

    Strong diagnostic skills across OS, network, and application layers.
  • Soft Skills:

    Excellent communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and documentation abilities.

Desirable / Nice-to-Have Skills

  • AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, AWS Solutions Architect, or equivalent cloud certifications.
  • Experience with multi-cloud or hybrid environments.
  • Familiarity with configuration management (Ansible, Chef, Puppet).
  • Exposure to container security, service mesh, and microservices architectures.
  • Knowledge of serverless technologies (AWS Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions).
  • Experience with policy-as-code and governance frameworks (AWS Control Tower, Azure Policy).
  • Prior experience in regulated industries (finance, healthcare, government).
