Position Summary:

Chief Ground Instructor (CGI) plays a pivotal role in overseeing and managing all ground theoretical training activities. The CGI is responsible for standardizing theoretical knowledge instruction across all approved programs and ensuring compliance with DGCA Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR Section 7, Series I, Part VII) as well as internal quality standards. The CGI also supervises the training, development, and performance of all Ground Instructors and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), contributing significantly to the integrity and effectiveness of organization’s Approved Training Organization (ATO).


Key Responsibilities:

❖ Instruction, Oversight & Supervision

➢ Supervise, mentor, and evaluate all ground instructors to ensure high-quality and standardized theoretical instruction across all training programs.

➢ Conduct periodic performance assessments and recommend improvements or training as needed.

➢ Provide initial ground training, in aeronautical knowledge areas required for the issuance of a type rating and/ or special operations approval.

➢ Provide recurrent ground training in aeronautical knowledge areas, as required for recurrent training of pilots, and Ground Instructors.

➢ Provide ground training for LTC/ C h e c k P i l o t / S F I / TRI/ TRE/ DE.

➢ Train and mentor newly inducted Ground Instructors and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) as per DGCA-approved syllabi and procedures..

❖ Curriculum Development & Compliance

➢ Develop and maintain course syllabi and theoretical knowledge training programs that comply with DGCA regulations.

➢ Ensure alignment of training materials with applicable CARs, aircraft type-specific content, and industry best practices.

❖ Examinations & Assessments

➢ Design, implement, and review theoretical knowledge examinations and ensure secure handling and delivery of assessment materials.

➢ Ensure examination records are maintained and analyzed for continuous improvement of the training program.

❖ Distance Learning Management

➢ Define and manage the distance learning components of training courses, ensuring regulatory compliance and learner engagement.

➢ Arrange for regular direct contact sessions between students and instructors to monitor and discuss student progress.

❖ Quality Assurance & Record Keeping

➢ Ensure training records, syllabi, and instructor performance data are accurately maintained and available for audit.

➢ Participate in internal audits and assist the Quality Manager in resolving nonconformities related to ground training.

❖ Regulatory Liaison & Reporting

➢ Coordinate with the DGCA for updates to training program approvals, instructor authorizations, and syllabus modifications.

➢ Support preparation of reports and documentation required for DGCA inspections and audits.

❖ Safety and Compliance

➢ Ensure that all ground training activities are conducted in a safe environment with strict adherence to aviation safety standards.

❖ Workload & Fatigue Management

➢ Ensure instructional staff do not exceed 30 teaching hours per week (including CBT).


Qualifications & Experience:

Must qualify under one of the following categories:

• Engineering graduate or graduate with Physics and/or Mathematics from a

recognized university, or

• Qualified pilot/flight navigator/flight engineer/flight dispatcher/ATCO with

minimum 2 years of aviation experience, or

• Aircraft Maintenance Engineer with a minimum of 3 years of work experience as AME,


Or


• Must hold or have held a valid ATPL/CPL or AME license, or possess relevant qualifications recognized by DGCA, and

• Minimum 5 years of experience in theoretical knowledge instruction in aviation or training management,

• Thorough knowledge of DGCA Civil Aviation Requirements (CARs), especially those relevant to ATOs and ground training,

• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills,

• Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and distance learning tools,

• Proficiency in curriculum design and training outcome assessment.


Preferred Competencies:

• Prior experience as CGI or Deputy CGI in a DGCA-approved ATO.

• Ability to manage a multi-disciplinary team of instructors and adapt to evolving

regulatory frameworks.


Approval Requirement:

This position is subject to approval by DGCA as per applicable Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR Section 7, Series D, Part I).
