Job Title: Head of Finance, Taxation & Legal / Senior Manager - Finance & Legal Reporting To: Founder/Director About My Chhota School: My Chhota School is a rapidly growing educational institution dedicated to providing quality education to young learners. We are looking for a dynamic and experienced finance professional to join our leadership team and drive financial excellence, ensure regulatory compliance, and manage legal affairs. Job Summary: The Head of Finance, Taxation & Legal (or Senior Manager) will be a critical member of My Chhota School's leadership team, responsible for overseeing all financial operations, ensuring tax compliance, and managing legal matters. This role requires a seasoned Chartered Accountant with a strong understanding of the education sector, excellent leadership skills, and a proven ability to manage complex financial and legal frameworks. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker who can contribute to the overall growth and sustainability of the school. Key Responsibilities: 1. Financial Management & Strategy: Develop and implement robust financial strategies, policies, and procedures to support the school's growth objectives. Oversee all financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting activities. Manage cash flow effectively, ensuring optimal liquidity and efficient utilization of funds. Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and risks, providing actionable insights to leadership. Lead the annual budgeting process and regularly monitor performance against budget. Manage vendor payments, payroll, and other financial disbursements accurately and on time. Implement and maintain strong internal financial controls to safeguard assets and ensure data integrity. Prepare and present accurate and timely financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) to the management. Oversee internal and external audits, ensuring timely completion and compliance. 2. Taxation & Compliance: Ensure timely and accurate compliance with all direct and indirect tax regulations (e.g., Income Tax, GST, TDS, etc.) applicable to educational institutions. Prepare and file all tax returns and other statutory filings within prescribed deadlines. Manage tax assessments, notices, and appeals, liaisoning with tax authorities as required. Stay updated with changes in tax laws and regulations relevant to the education sector and advise management on their implications. Ensure compliance with all other statutory requirements and regulations applicable to educational institutions (e.g., FCRA if applicable, local educational board regulations, etc.). 3. Legal Matters & Risk Management: Oversee all legal affairs of the school, including contracts, agreements, and compliance with educational laws and regulations. Draft, review, and negotiate various legal documents, including vendor contracts, employment agreements, student enrollment agreements, etc. Provide legal counsel and guidance to the management on various operational and strategic matters. Manage any litigation or legal disputes involving the school, coordinating with external legal counsel as necessary. Ensure compliance with all labor laws and other relevant legal statutes. Identify and mitigate potential legal and financial risks to the school. Develop and implement risk management strategies to protect the school's interests. 4. Leadership & Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance and accounting team. Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and efficiency within the finance department. Collaborate effectively with other departments (e.g., Admissions, Operations, Academics) to achieve organizational goals. Act as a key liaison with banks, financial institutions, auditors, tax consultants, and legal advisors. Qualifications & Experience: Mandatory: Qualified Chartered Accountant (CA) from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). Minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience, with significant experience in a senior finance role. Proven experience in managing finance, taxation, and legal functions, preferably within the education sector. Strong knowledge of accounting principles (Indian GAAP/IND AS), financial reporting standards, and tax laws. In-depth understanding of legal and regulatory frameworks applicable to educational institutions in India. Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems (e.g., Tally ERP 9, Zoho Books, etc.). Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. High level of integrity and ethical conduct.
