Job Description

A Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) who specializes in eye-related medical equipment is a professional trained to maintain, repair, and calibrate devices used in ophthalmology and optometry. This subset of BMETs focuses on ensuring that diagnostic, therapeutic, surgical, and monitoring equipment used in eye care functions safely and accurately. Responsibilities: Preventive maintenance and calibration of eye-specific equipment such as: Phoropters Autorefractors OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) systems Fundus cameras Slit lamps Tonometers Laser systems (e.g., YAG, Argon lasers) Troubleshooting and repair of electrical, mechanical, and software-related faults in ophthalmic instruments. Ensuring compliance with safety and performance standards set by regulatory bodies. Training clinical staff on proper use and care of ophthalmic devices. Documenting service activities and maintaining records in accordance with facility policies. Skills & Knowledge Areas: In-depth understanding of ophthalmic diagnostic and surgical technology. Proficiency in electronics, optics, and mechanical systems. Familiarity with ISO, FDA, and manufacturer standards for ophthalmic devices. Ability to interpret service manuals and schematics.
