Backup Engineer

Job Description

Key Responsibilities: • Manage and maintain backup solutions (e.g., Veritas NetBackup, Veeam, AVAMAR, EMC Networker etc.). • Participate in a 24x7 shift rotation as required by the team. • Monitor daily backup jobs, ensuring successful execution and addressing failed jobs. • Validate backup reports and escalate critical failures to higher-level teams if necessary. • Ensure backup policies and schedules are aligned with business needs. • Investigate and resolve backup failures, missed jobs, and performance issues. • Work with storage, network, and application teams to identify root causes of backup issues. • Perform restores and disaster recovery tests as per business requirements. • Create and update knowledge base articles for common backup issues and resolutions. • Develop and maintain PowerShell or Shell scripts for backup reporting and automation. • Optimize backup performance through automation and policy adjustments. And your skills include: • Strong experience with enterprise backup solutions (Veritas NetBackup, Commvault, Veeam, etc.). • Proficiency in Windows, Linux server and VMWare environments. • Proficiency in storage tools like NetApp, Dell EMC etc. • Proficiency in cloud tools like Microsoft Azure, AWS, Oracle, Google etc • Knowledge of storage technologies (SAN, NAS, disk, tape, cloud backups). • Experience with PowerShell scripting for automation and reporting. • Understanding of networking concepts related to backup (ports, firewall rules, data transfer). • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. • Good communication and teamwork abilities. • Ability to work independently and manage tasks efficiently.
