Role Overview: As the AVP - Lead Liability Underwriting at Global Corporate & Commercial (GC&C) in Vikhroli, Mumbai, your role involves leading the development and execution of underwriting strategy within the Engineering or relevant commercial lines portfolio under GC&C India. Your strategic approach will ensure effective portfolio performance, maintain governance, and cultivate market relationships aligned with global and regional GC&C business objectives. Key Responsibilities: - Strategy Development & Execution: - Formulate and implement a structured underwriting and portfolio strategy aligned with global and regional GC&C LOB guidelines. - Define and monitor KPIs for underwriting processes. - Lead market-facing underwriting activities and product positioning. - Ensure technical adherence to GC&C risk appetite and operational standards. - Underwriting Performance & Portfolio Management: - Own full P&L responsibility for the LOB. - Achieve top-line (GWP) and bottom-line (NTR) business objectives. - Implement corrective actions based on product or hazard grade, producer, or market performance. - Strengthen relationships with brokers, clients, and industry stakeholders. - Underwriting Excellence & Technical Enablement: - Drive adherence to technical underwriting guidelines and tools. - Monitor financial KPIs including premium adequacy. - Control data accuracy, risk exposure, and accumulation levels including CAT modeling. - Utilize GC&C treaties to reduce leakage and improve profitability. - Governance & Regulatory Compliance: - Implement GC&C governance frameworks (e.g., UQAs, TURs, accumulation controls). - Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulatory guidelines. - Maintain and update local LOB underwriting guidelines. - Coordinate with internal departments including Audit, Finance, Actuarial, and Planning. - Leadership & Talent Development: - Build and lead a high-performing underwriting team. - Drive capability development, coaching, and knowledge sharing. - Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. - Create a talent pipeline for succession planning. Qualification Required: - Graduate/Postgraduate, preferably in a quantitative discipline (Economics, Engineering, Statistics, Physics) - Professional Insurance Qualification (e.g., AIII, FIII, ACII, CPCU) Additional Company Details: The company emphasizes the importance of leadership and talent development, aiming to build an engaged, skilled, and performance-driven team.
