Position: Manager / Assistant Manager Machine Shop Department: Production / Manufacturing Industry: Two-Wheeler Alloy Wheels Manufacturing Reports to: Plant Head / Operations Manager Key Responsibilities: Production Management: Oversee daily machining operations, ensuring quality and efficiency in the production of two-wheeler alloy wheels. Plan and execute production schedules to meet customer demands and delivery timelines. Optimize machine utilization and minimize downtime. Process & Quality Control: Implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for CNC/VMC/HMC machining and ensure adherence. Monitor process parameters to ensure dimensional accuracy and surface finish of alloy wheels. Work closely with the Quality Assurance team to address defects, implement corrective actions, and improve first-pass yield. Manpower & Resource Management: Lead, train, and motivate the machine shop team, including operators, supervisors, and engineers. Ensure proper workforce planning and shift scheduling to maximize productivity. Monitor employee performance and implement skill development programs. Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Coordinate with the maintenance team for preventive and breakdown maintenance of machining equipment. Identify recurring machine failures and drive root cause analysis (RCA) to prevent reoccurrences. Ensure spare part management for critical machining tools and equipment. Process Improvement & Cost Optimization: Implement Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and Six Sigma practices to enhance efficiency. Reduce cycle time, rework, and scrap rates through continuous process improvement. Optimize tool life and consumption costs without compromising quality. Safety & Compliance: Ensure all machine shop operations comply with safety guidelines and regulations. Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and employee training. Maintain documentation for ISO, IATF, and other regulatory requirements. New Product Development (NPD) Support: Collaborate with R&D and production teams to facilitate machining trials for new alloy wheel models. Validate machining programs and fixture designs for new product launches. Key Skills & Competencies: Strong knowledge of CNC, VMC, HMC, and lathe machining processes. Expertise in alloy wheel machining, surface finishing, and defect analysis. Hands-on experience with CAD/CAM software and G-code programming. Proficiency in Lean Manufacturing, 5S, TPM, and Six Sigma methodologies. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and quality specifications. Leadership skills to manage a diverse team and drive performance. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities. Knowledge of industry standards such as ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and safety protocols. Experience: Experience: 8-15 years in machine shop operations, preferably in the two-wheeler alloy wheels or automotive components industry..
